Liberal Youth have expressed their delight at the successes they have had in Birmingham, and have
welcomed Nick Clegg’s focus on youth issues in his Leader’s speech.

Liberal Youth kick-started the Conference season with two overwhelming victories on the Conference
floor:

On Saturday they led on the Employment Support Allowance and Work Capability Assessments
motion, which passed almost unanimously. On Sunday they gained the support of the party on their
calls for a radical rethink on drugs policy, declaring the war on drugs as failed and demanding a new,
evidence-based policy.

Outside of the main hall there was a string of successful fringe events and activity within the Youth
Zone, organised in conjunction with an alliance of 14 national youth charities.

Liberal Youth Chair, Tom Wood, said “Conference has been a resounding success for Liberal Youth.
It has been brilliant to see so many young people engaged and enthusiastic about the future of the
party.”

He added: “It was fantastic to see so many important youth issues highlighted in Nick’s speech, and
we hope to work hard with him and the party as a whole to ensure they remain at the heart of the
Government’s agenda”

Sarah Harding, Policy Officer of Liberal Youth, commented on the successes on the Conference floor

“This year we were the largest policy making organisation at Conference, and to see the party
endorse so much of our ideas is a proud moment”
