This article is rubbish. There is not one benefit we get from being in the EU that we couldn't get from leaving the EU and agreeing to a free trade agreement.

Firstly as you have pointed out with our worsening trade defect, leaving the EU would certainly worsen the situation dramatically, putting many jobs at risk. Would there be a sudden loss of jobs on a large scale in the near future after leaving the EU? Almost certainly. Drawing up detailed trade links with 27 countries doesn't happen over night. Its taken many years for countries to allow this free trade to exist. And hoping of course that we will be exempt from EU trade barriers is wishful thinking, so yes many jobs certainly are dependent on the EU.
The 3.5 million figure has been used in other papers, and although the economic climate has shifted, a new updated figure can surely not be done until after the recent economic fluctuations have finished. It is therefore the most reliable figure.
Lastly I would like to point you in the direction of some anti-eu parties, who do not even choose academic reports for their facts. The water is muddy from their trivial "facts". As I have already stated, these figures have academic support, and in a debate that certainly helps clear the water.

Your statement that 3.5 million British jobs are dependent on our membership of the EU is at best disingenious and at worst misleading. The figure you use is based on a study paper by academics at The South Bank University in 1999. That was twelve years ago and the main conclusion of that report is “Our major finding is that 3,445,000 jobs in the UK depend upon exports to the EU”. Even if that figure is correct your supposition is based on all British exports to the EU ceasing if we left which is a total nonsense as you well know. Secondly, assuming the figure of 3.5 million was correct at the time the report was published, the figure is likely to be much lower now since the UK's trade deficit with the EU has risen from from £14.3bn to £46.6bn in 2010. This means that any jobs directly dependent on the EU will have shrunk dramatically. In truth nobody has the faintest idea how many jobs depend on the EU and throwing around dodgy statistics from a twelve year old report like confetti at a wedding merely muddies the waters.

Reading this, it is clear there are benefits belonging to the EU. However, negotiations need to be made so that Britain has a greater say. We, as a country pay a great deal for this Union.

Hi,

Yes I know! I've been unable to find any details of their youth organisation if there is one. Last week at the IFLRY EC I met the president of OALY-LEAD, the umbrella organisation recently set up for liberal youth groups in Africa. Myself and Sam Fisk are hoping to establish a dialogue between LY and African liberal youth organisations in the future.

South Sudan has its own Liberal Party, which is the South Sudan Liberal Party. The Party was formed by members of Democratic Liberal Party of Sudan in October 2010, and joined Africa Liberal Network in November 2011.
