Faith Schools And Multiculturalism

Discouraging state supported promotion of faith schools.

Conference believes:

 

  1. That there should be a moratorium on any further state funded faith based schools, and that existing state based faith based schools should be weaned out of the system in the longer term either through secularisation or replacement.
  2. That state schools should aim to be ethnically mixed, should be representative of the community which they serve and avoid indulging any single local ethnic or religious community at all costs, even at the expense of some parental choice.
  3. That fair and unbiased religious education should form a central plank in education at all levels alongside citizenship education.
