When will the UK play it straight on Equal Marriage?

More and more countries are legalising same sex marriage, but gay couples in the UK are still restricted to “Civil Partnerships”.

The Liberal Democrats think this is wrong. We believe all couples should be able to marry in the same places, regardless of sexual orientation. We want all existing and future same-sex partnerships to be recognised as equal to marriage.

Liberal Youth think it’s time for the UK to play it straight on gay marriage.

Lib Dem MP and Junior Equality Minister Lynne Featherstone is making provisions for same-sex partnerships to be held in places of worship and to contain religious elements. We want to go even further and make same-sex marriage legal.

In a recent report, we found out just how backwards a large part of the Tory party are. Many of them are threatening to declare war over the issue and predictions of a bigger rebellion than we saw on the referendum on Europe send shivers down the spine of equality activists.

A Senior Conservaite aide recently said:

“Gay marriage is a debate we don’t need to have at this stage. It is not an issue people are hammering us on the doorstep to do something about”

Perhaps we weren’t knocking hard enough? Help us to add as much pressure as we can on the Coalition to deliver equal rights to marriage.
